Interstellar Cosmos (Journal Entry)

 September 1st, 3001

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a world of comets and galaxies? Well, I know, at least, this portion of the universe. Hello. I am Twilight, a resident of planet Zen. You may be wondering what I am, for I am not an alien, nor a cyborg, nor a clone. I am what some call, the One of Hope, for I am made of the sincere wishes that residents of other planets have made. In appearance, I am navy blue with several vein-like lines that course through my body, carrying what looks like blinding pin-pricks of light that I am pretty sure are the wishes of the other planets.  I think my hirsute neighbor, Shadow, is jealous of that. He’s a little idiosyncratic, if I’m being honest, because he has phobophobia. Now, since I have told you some things about myself, I should tell you about my home planet, Zen.

It is the serene, color-changing planet that lies just on the edge of the Milky Way. Today, it has taken up a tranquil spectrum of pale teal, faded purple, and silvery pink. One of the best things about Zen, in my opinion at least, is that there is no monarchy ruling over it. There are just a set of rules that everyone obligingly follows. They are:

  1. It is verboten to lie, steal, or do anything to express anger.

  2. Instead, be courteous and apologize if rule one is broken.

  3. If you see someone in need, help them.

  4. Remember that ignorant people will follow tyrants. Do not become an ignorant being.

  5. Read or write books whenever possible, for books are the gateway to understanding the world and some of the ways of life.

  6. Try to maintain a calm personality, but it is okay to get excited sometimes, as long as it’s not over the edge.

My favorite rule out of these is probably Rule 5. It sounds so wise. These rules were created by the first beings to discover this planet. Their names were Starshine, Constellation, and Midnight. They were just a trio of rowdy beings, exploring the galaxy. But when they found this place, they decided to settle down here. In order to ensure that Zen would always be a peace-loving, calm planet even after they were gone, they wrote the rules I mentioned and called them The Ways of The Untroubled. Now that you know about me, my wonderful planet, and my whole world, I don’t know what to do. Maybe I’ll go outside, see if Shadow can hang out? No, he has an orthodontist appointment today. I wonder if my laptop has updated… YES! It has! Now I will just log in to Star Horses, my favorite game… oh. It takes a while to load… oh well. I can wait. Now I’ll just go and fix myself a snack, play some Star Horses, work on my novel for a while, read Shadows novel, and by then it’ll be time for me to go to bed. I’m so glad I got this notebook to jot down my thoughts and ideas.

Signing off,
Twilight
